From A – Z, a list of whole foods
There are a lot of lists out there of foods from A to Z, but we thought we would do one for whole foods, with the listed nutritional info from A to Z. We thought we would throw in a few out of the ordinary foods, in case you want to know the nutritional benefits before trying them. Let’s get started.
A – Apple One medium apple (3 per pound) contains 81 calories, 21 grams carbohydrate, 0 grams protein, 0 grams fat.
B – Bison Three ounces of buffalo contains 99 calories, 0 grams carbohydrate, 19 grams protein, 2 grams fat.
C – Cantaloupe 1/4 of a medium melon (about 5″ in diameter) contains 48 calories, 12 grams carbohydrate, 1 gram protein, 0 grams fat.
D – Date One date (good or bad, cute or ugly – hee hee) contains 23 calories, 6 grams carbohydrate, 0 grams protein, 0 grams fat.
E – Eggplant One cup of 1″ cubes contains 35 calories, 9 grams carbohydrate, 1 gram protein, 0 grams fat.
F – Fig A small (1 – 1 1/2 ” in diameter) fig contains 30 calories, 7.7 grams carbohydrate, 0.3 grams protein, 0.1 grams fat.
G – Grapefruit One medium (3 3/4″ in diameter) grapefruit contains 74 calories, 18 grams carbohydrate, 1 gram protein, 0 grams fat
H – Hazelnut Ten hazelnuts contain 88 calories, 2 grams carbohydrate, 2 grams protein, 9 grams of fat.
I – Injera (American style Ethiopian bread) One cup contains 92 calories, 20 grams carbohydrate, 3 grams protein, 1 gram fat (this is a bread and not really a whole food, we were stumped) so an alternative would be iceberg lettuce – one head (6″ in diameter) contains 75 calories, 16 grams carbohydrate, 5 grams protein, 1 gram fat.
J – Jalapeno One pepper contains 4 calories, 1 gram of carbohydrate, 0 grams protein, and 0 grams fat.
K – Kale One cup chopped kale contains 36 calories, 7 grams carbohydrate, 2 grams protein, 1 gram fat.
L – Lemon One lemon contains 22 calories, 12 grams carbohydrate, 1 gram protein, and 0 grams fat.
M – Mango One mango without refuse contains 135 calories, 35 grams carbohydrate, 1 gram protein, 1 gram fat.
N – Nectarine One fruit (2 1/2″ in diameter) contains 60 calories, 14 grams carbohydrate, 1 gram protein, 0 grams fat.

X – Xiphios (a type of swordfish found in warm waters) One ounce raw contains 44 calories, 0 grams carbohydrate, 7 grams protein, 1 gram fat.
Y – Yam (yummy) One cup cubed contains 158 calories, 38 grams carbohydrate, 2 grams protein, and 0 grams fat.
Z – Zucchini One cup sliced contains 29 calories, 7 grams carbohydrate, 1 gram protein, 0 grams fat.
WOW! We did it, a whole food for each letter of the alphabet. I am gonna go eat some of these right now! Not only delicious, nutritious, and need I add colorful?
